FAQ: Features
Q.What is timeboxing?
Timeboxing is a time management method where you divide your day into fixed blocks of time, each dedicated to a specific task. Instead of working through a to-do list hoping to finish everything, you plan when and how long you'll work on each task. Dayopt makes this workflow simple and practical.
Q.How do I use Dayopt?
Three steps. Plan — drag and drop tasks onto your calendar. Execute — start and complete with one click. Reflect — review the gap between plan and reality. Through this cycle, you gradually get better at managing your time.
Q.What is the Accuracy Score?
It compares your planned time with actual time spent. For example, if you planned 2 hours of deep work and finished in 1.5 hours, that's 75%. It's not about blame — it's about understanding how much your estimates drift. Over time, your estimation accuracy naturally improves.
Q.What is Energy Mapping?
After completing a timebox, you can log your focus and energy level with a single tap. After about a week, you'll start seeing your peak hours. This helps you schedule your most important work when you're at your best.
Q.What does AI Reflection tell me?
It provides personalized insights based on your own data. For example: "Your Tuesday afternoon deep work sessions have a 90% completion rate. Consider scheduling more." It's not generic advice — it's drawn from your actual patterns.
Q.How does Google Calendar sync work?
It syncs both ways. Timeboxes you create in Dayopt appear on Google Calendar, and Google Calendar events appear in Dayopt. You can layer timeboxing on top of your existing schedule without disrupting anything.
Q.Can I change plans by drag and drop?
Yes. When things change, just drag your timebox to a new time. Plans aren't meant to be followed perfectly — they're meant to be adjusted flexibly. Dayopt makes that adjustment easy.
Q.Are there keyboard shortcuts?
Yes. Frequently used actions can be performed via keyboard shortcuts. You can create, start, and complete timeboxes without touching your mouse, so your focus stays unbroken.
Q.Can I organize tasks by project?
Yes. You can group tasks under projects. The Free plan allows up to 3 projects; Pro is unlimited. We recommend starting small and expanding as you get comfortable.
Q.Is there a tagging feature?
Yes. You can tag your timeboxes freely — "deep work," "meetings," "admin," and so on. When you look back, you'll immediately see where your time went.
Q.Can I create recurring timeboxes?
Yes. Daily routines and regular tasks can be set as recurring timeboxes. This shortens your morning planning time so you can jump straight into execution.
Q.Is there a timer? Can I use it like Pomodoro?
Dayopt isn't designed to chase you with a timer. You record starts and completions with one click. It's about maintaining awareness of "I'm focusing on this now" while working at your own pace. Rhythm, not pressure.
Q.What happens to timeboxes I don't complete?
They stay as records. Not completing something isn't a "failure" — it's data. The patterns behind why plans didn't work out help make your next plan more realistic.
Q.Can I view weekly or monthly reports?
The Pro plan offers advanced analytics and trends. You can track your Accuracy Score over weeks and see time breakdowns by project. The numbers aren't for judgment — they're for pattern discovery.
Q.Does it work offline?
As a PWA (Progressive Web App), basic operations work offline. Everything syncs automatically when your connection returns.
Q.Are there notifications?
You can set notifications for timebox starts and ends. We keep them minimal by design — the last thing you need is notification overload breaking your focus.
Q.Does it work across multiple devices?
Yes. As a web app, you can access it from any browser on PC, tablet, or smartphone. Your data syncs via the cloud, so switching devices is seamless.
Q.Is there a dark mode?
Yes. You can choose from light mode, dark mode, or match your system settings. Since it's a tool you use for extended periods, we want it to be easy on your eyes.
Q.Is there an API?
Yes. API access is available from the Free plan. Build your own automation workflows or connect with other tools in your stack.
Q.What are Records?
Records capture your actual time spent. Against your Plan (what you intended), Records show what actually happened. Comparing the two is the core of Dayopt's improvement cycle.
